How to make homemade wine

You don't need anything special. Wine is surprisingly easy to make. I will show you how to make my own wine.

wine

I wasn't planning on making wine this year, but my husband bought a bunch of grapes and I couldn't finish them all so I decided to try making wine again.

What to prepare:

How to make

1. Prepare the grapes. When making Red Wine, use red grapes.
When making white wine, you can use either red or white.

2. Just loosen the fruit without washing it. (If you wash the grapes, let them sit for a day until the water dries completely.)

Red Wine

3. Crush the grapes, put the skins, seeds, juice, etc. into a container and loosely cover the container.

White Wine

3. Crush the grapes, squeeze out only the juice, put it in a container and loosely cover it.

*If the grapes are not very sweet, it will be difficult to ferment them, so it is a good idea to add some sugar at this time. (sugar is broken down and becomes alcohol)

fermentation

It is best to store it in a warm place above 25℃. I think it will be difficult to ferment if the temperature is low. Leave some room at the top of the container to allow for fermentation. (Fill up to about 70% of the container)

Close the lid lightly to allow the gas released during fermentation to escape.

Red Wine

4. After a day passes, the grape skins are pushed up by gas produced during fermentation. Stir the grape skins downward 2-3 times a day to submerge them. (Neglecting to do so may result in the growth of mold.)

White Wine

4. There is no need to stir, just look at it. Fermentation will begin the next day, and fine bubbles will appear, similar to carbonated juice.

5. I think it will have the taste of wine in about a week after it starts fermenting. Look at the taste. If you like sweetness, I think 4 or 5 days is fine. Let's make it and check the taste. If it seems like it's not fully fermented, let it sit a little longer.

By the way, in the case of rose wine, when the red wine has a suitable color during the fermentation process, the skin and seeds are removed and only the fruit juice is fermented, resulting in rose wine.

Red Wine

6. Once fermentation is complete, transfer only the fruit juice to another container and store it in a cool, dark place (refrigerator).

White Wine

6. Transfer to another container (pin or plastic bottle) and store in a cool, dark place (refrigerator) to prevent sediment from entering.

Although it may be cloudy at first, if you leave it for about a month, the white substance that causes the wine to become cloudy will settle out and become a clear liquid.

The two wines shown in the pictures were made from the same grapes. However, the one on the left turned out somewhat like rose wine, while the one on the right, surprisingly, became a sparkling wine with carbonation. This result was achieved by tightly sealing the lid and refrigerating it during fermentation. Incidentally, during the white wine fermentation process this time, I accidentally sealed the lid tightly. When I tried to check the taste later by opening it, it was quite an ordeal. Just like opening a vigorously shaken soda, the gas that had built up shot up to the ceiling. I ended up showered in wine and lost about 4/5 of what I had made.

Reflections After Making This Wine

Nature's power is incredible. This time, we ended up with sparkling wine by accident. When I had my friends taste these two wines, they were impressed and said, "Delicious!" My friends also tried making their own, and it turned out well for them too. By the way, if you let the fermentation go too far, it will turn into wine vinegar. My mother-in-law seems to be making vinegar in a similar way, and when she saw the containers I was using to make wine, she asked, "Are you making vinegar?"
